Overview-Battle Drills

Battle Drills

Defined as "a collective action rapidly executed without applying a deliberate decision-making process."

Characteristics of a Battle Drill:
  • Standard key series of actions used to deal with specific situations
  • Sequential actions that are vital to success in combat or critical to reducing casuallties
  • Apply to platoon or smaller units
  • Represent mental steps followed for offensive and defensive actions in combat
  • Identify key actions that players should implement automatically
  • Provide for a smooth transition from one activity to another; for example, from movement to offensive action to defensive action
Note: once battle drills are in effect the unit no longer maneuvers using the standard movement techniques
